10 questions to ask your boudoir photographer

I wanted to take some time to touch base on ten questions you should be asking your boudoir photographer before your session! Even if you don’t book with me and Hype Girl Boudoir, it's so important to have all of the information you need before jumping in and booking in order to make sure you’re not only well informed, but that you have the best experience possible.

These are a few popular FAQ's we receive from our clients:

How much is a session?

Our session fee itself is $699, and all products and images are sold separately! The session fee is to cover things like studio expenses (rent, utilities, insurance, the boring stuff), your hair and makeup artists, our client closet, and our photographer’s time and talents!

Before even booking, you’ll receive all of our product pricing upfront! No surprises here, we want to make sure you have all of the information beforehand so you have a full idea of what to expect. Transparency is super important to us!

Do you edit all of my images?

Yes! We will 100% retouch the images you purchase, starting with a light retouching before your reveal and then will take additional editing requests if there’s anything else you would like done.

Now that being said- when I edit, I don’t remove the parts of you that tell your story! Things like acne and bruises, and what’s considered “non-permanent” I’ll remove. I’ll lighten cellulite and smooth your skin a bit, but I cannot in good conscience remove stretch marks or alter your body’s shape. Doing things like that goes against my message entirely, and that message is that you are BEAUTIFUL and POWERFUL and INCREDIBLE exactly as you are. Even with insecurities and flaws. Your body has carried you through your entire life, and it deserves to be loved. I promise that I will help you learn or relearn to love and accept yourself exactly as you are.

Should I go tanning?

Noooooooo! No tanning beds, spray tans, or any artificial tanning agents! Of course the choice is always yours, but we highly recommend against it. Tanning sprays and lotions pose such a risk for splotchy and artificial looking color. Even if it looks great on one person, your body’s chemistry can alter the end result! And tanning beds can do something similar, as well as give you some tan lines- which we don’t edit out!

If you’re worried about looking “too pale” for your session, I promise that it’s nothing to be concerned about! Again, the point of boudoir is to help you learn or relearn how to love yourself as you are- skin color and all.

Where are you located?

Our permanent studio is located in Jacksonville, FL! We just moved into our beautiful new studio in the northside of town, located at 960 New Berlin Rd., Jacksonville FL 32218. We do travel, though! I’m from Fayetteville, NC so I usually offer a few sessions when I go back to visit family. And same with Ohio, as well! My business also really kicked off when my husband was stationed with the navy in Virginia, so we travel there at least once a year. We have also been to Mexico, Canada, California, Puerto Rico, and more! Our travel locations do get planned pretty far in advance, but always reach out and we’ll see what we can work out.

How do I prepare?

We will go over all of this during your pre-session consultations, but we still have a few tips before!

-Stretch in the days leading up to your session. Some of these poses can be a workout, and we have had many clients say that they have been sore afterwards!

-Same goes for drinking plenty of water. Not only is it important to lessen the soreness afterwards, but healthy and hydrated skin has such a beautiful glow that really shows on camera!

-Arrive to the studio on time, with clean and dry hair. Our stylists don’t carry hair dryers, so it will cause some delays that will cut into your session time! We also ask for a clean face with no makeup, just to make things easier. Of course, if you have specific allergies or sensitivities and would prefer we use your makeup, just let us know and we’ll talk more about it!

Are you going to share my images?

Only if you give us written permission by signing a Model Release Contract! If you want to sign this contract, we can share your photos on social media, our website, and any marketing materials we may need. But this is NEVER required! You always have the choice to keep your images private. If you choose to not sign a release, then they are for your eyes only to do with as you wish! It is always up to you, and we will never pressure you one way or another.

When will I see my images?

You will see your images immediately the same day as your session! Once we finish up taking photos, we will break for an hour lunch while I touch up your photos. Once that break is up, we will proceed with your Same Day Reveal (which is included in all of our sessions). This is where we will spend some time going through your photos, and start deciding on which you’re wanting to use for products!

Of course, same day reveals do add a bit of time to your session- especially including our editing break! We can always reschedule this part for a later date if you’re on a time crunch or something comes up. Sometimes, we can schedule it for as early as the next day! If you think this might be something that needs to be done for your session, just let us know and we will go from there.

Now, mini sessions are a bit different- we don’t do same day reveals for these since they’re usually back to back with other minis! With these photos, we’ll send you an email with a watermarked gallery of edited images within a week or two of your session. From there, you’ll receive some instructions on how to choose your favorite photos + images for your products.

What do I need to bring to my session?

Yourself. Next question.

Honestly though, it’s not much more than that! We have a client closet filled with beautiful pieces, ranging from XXS-6XL and many different styles. I always suggest to bring a few pieces just in case (because I have anxiety and worry that you may not love our closet), but we have had many people solely choose from our client closet for their session! Our hair and makeup team will also have everything they need to get you all dolled up, so no need to lug around a makeup bag either.

Can I bring a friend?

We do not allow onlookers or extra guests (unless it’s a couple’s boudoir session, of course!). Our space is limited, and we don’t want distractions to take you away from this experience! We want you to feel free to "wild out," and not worry about who is watching. I promise that you are safe with me. I know that a boudoir session can be scary and nerve wracking, but my studio is a safe house for you to let loose and I promise that those nerves will start slipping away and you’ll have so much fun!

When should I book my session?

As soon as possible! We tend to book several months out, and products can take up to 6 weeks to be delivered. Our albums are handcrafted out of Europe, and the kind of care and heart that goes into creating this artwork for you just can’t be rushed! We always suggest having your session 2-3 months before your deadline if you have one, to help give some wiggle room if there are any shipping delays. Maybe even a bit farther out if it’s around the holiday season!

I hope this helps answer some questions you may have about a boudoir session with us, but always reach out if there is anything else you’re wondering about!
