First off, congratulations on taking this empowering step. It’s completely normal to feel a mix of excitement and nerves- in fact, almost EVERYONE is nervous as they get closer and closer to session day! This is your time to shine, and I’m here to help you make the most of it.
Let's dive into some tips and guidelines to prepare you for an amazing boudoir session!
Get to Know Your Photographer
Before your session, schedule a consultation with your photographer. This is a great time to discuss your vision, share any insecurities, and ask questions! Building a rapport will help you feel more comfortable and confident on the day of your shoot, but also these are very intimate sessions and you don’t want to feel like your meeting a stranger day of!
Here at Hype Girl, pre-session consultations are a must! Aside from all of the planning benefits, we love using this as an opportunity to get to know YOU. That way, we know exactly how to make the session unique for you!
2. Plan Your Outfits
This is probably one of the hardest parts for clients because must don’t know where to start! Don't over think this and start by looking at boudoir photos. You will quickly see a variety of outfits and from there you can search for them on various lingerie sites. If you aren’t sure where to start, amazon is a great place with tons of options right at your finger tips!
If you’re booking a session with us, don’t forget that we have a massive client closet that’s free for you to use! We carry pieces from XXXS-6XL, and then other options like robes, jewelry, crowns, silk wraps, and more. We do still recommend bringing a few outfits that you’re already comfortable with as a backup, though!
3. Pamper Yourself
Give yourself some TLC before your session! Whether it’s a DIY spa day, mani/pedis, a trip to your favorite hair salon, find a way to wind yourself down. Boudoir is all about celebrating you and your body, so why not start early?!
We do have a few tips when it comes to things like waxing, facials, and tanning though!

4. Hydrate and Rest
Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your session and get a good night's sleep. You want to look and feel your best, and being well-rested and hydrated can make a big difference! Hydrated skin is happy, glowy skin and when you’re well rested, it’s easier to enjoy the session and really live in the moment.
5. Practice Posing
It might sound silly, but practicing poses in front of a mirror can help you feel more comfortable on the day of your shoot. Look for inspiration online or ask your photographer for a posing guide. The more you practice, the more natural it will feel!
If you know anything about me and Hype Girl, you know that posing is my superpower. If you check us out on TikTok, you can see exactly how I pose you!
6. Bring a Friend
I want to stress, however that the energy and vibe of your session can change depending on who you bring. So if you do want to bring a friend, please make sure they have the best and uplifting vibes. Boudoir sessions are intimate and a bad friend can easily derail the day.
7. Communicate Your Boundaries
There are a bunch of different levels of boudoir and it’s nice to know your boundaries beforehand. For example, are you comfortable being naked, or not at all? These boundaries are things your photographer will need to know in order to make you the most comfortable during your session.
8. Relax and Have Fun
I know this one sounds silly, but truly relaxing during your session is a must! Not only does it affect the photos, but your whole experience as well. If you aren’t fully comfortable with your photographer, the studio, the outfits, it will make your time there less then we want it to be!
9. Get in the right mindset
A boudoir session is more than just a photo shoot; it’s a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. But this stuff is so innately personal that we recommend beginning daily affirmations and mindset training beforehand to just assist in the in process of learning.
10. Prepare Your go bag
Don’t wait till the morning of to pack everything! The number of times I had a client forget one stocking or a pair of underwear. If you wait until the last minute you run the risk of not being fully prepared. My recommendation is start packing at least 3-5 days before your session so there is time to throw in something last minute if you need to!
Preparing for a boudoir session is about more than just looking good—it’s about feeling good. By following these tips and guidelines, you’ll be ready to step in front of the camera with confidence and grace. Remember, this experience is a celebration of you at every stage of your life. Love your body, embrace your sexuality, and let your true self shine through.
Dont forget we also have an amazing facebook group dedicated to all things boudoir sessions and at any time you can post your concerns and worries and hear from real clients how they handled things!
